Friday Fun: New Scripts To Pimp FriendFeed & Feedly
FriendFeed
Better FriendFeed is a new Greasemonkey script based on the work done by Duncan Riley and AJ Batac. Basically, it’s a bunch of great FriendFeed scripts in one. With Better FriendFeed, you can do the following:
- Add and remove custom tabs to FriendFeed simply by specifying the URL and/or favicon UR
- Activate Cleaner FriendFeed to make everything a little "prettier"
- Configuration is located at Tools->Greasemonkey->User Script Commands->Better FriendFeed
The script creator notes that you should probably disable any other FriendFeed tabs scripts before installing this one. However, I left my FriendFeed Tabs script installed (which adds Techmeme in a tab) and had no issues.
By default, the Better FriendFeed script adds Google Reader, Gmail, and Identi.ca to FriendFeed. Wow, I have those tabs open all the time! This is excellent.
Oh, and how cool is this? If you have any questions or concerns, you can “dent” him on Identi.ca! (http://identi.ca/rahsheen) Nice!
Feedly
Next up, Feedly. For those of you who don’t know what or why Feedly is incredibly awesome, here’s a guide to get you started.
You wouldn’t really think of Feedly as something that needs a facelift, but it got one anyway by way of the Stylish Extension for Firefox. A blogger by the name of SLAX created a nice gray/blue dark skin for the site. You can click here to install it into Stylish.
Happy Friday!

Like to Argue? Try CreateDebate
Do you agree with this? If not, you can join the debate going on at the web site CreateDebate. The site aims to take the classic internet flame wars and turn them into a more civilized event. Debates can spring up around any sort of topic and the homepage features the hottest ones. Expect to see topics involving religion, politics, morality, and, yes even Mac vs PC. (PC is winning right now!)
Each user on the site has a profile, which automatically builds itself over time. Your allies, enemies and hostile relationships are tracked and a news feeds provides personalized updates. Debates can be sorted by most heated, most arguments, most recent, etc. and there’s even a handy "Research" section which can help you craft your arguments. Within "Research," there are articles you can click on to become the focal point of a new debate. Each article has a little RSS feed icon next to it - different colors for different blogs. It’s subtle features like this that make CreateDebate stand out as one of the better debate sites.
I’m opinionated, but I like debating via a blog platform myself. However, I can see where this site could appeal to casual internet "arguers," who like to just pick a topic and riff on it. The site is also well designed, so it’s easy to navigate through the myriad of debates going on as well as access the other features, like your own profile for example - a feature that’s often, surprisingly, hidden on some of today’s services. There’s also a Facebook app to check out, which extends CreateDebate out into your social playground. If this sounds like your kind of internet fun, you’ll definitely want to try it out.
Guest Post: Facebook Ain’t Got Nothing On nclüdr
This is a guest post written by Corvida of SheGeeks.
nclüdr is "the most awesomest ultimate social network ever" that launched today after months of "development, seeding, hoeing, back-end testing, and the implementation of its revolutionary synchronization algorithms that deliver a more seamless social networking experience," according to a release issued earlier this morning.
Actually, it’s nothing more than an amusing prank site and parody of social networks.
upload photos or publish notes • get the latest news from your friends • post videos on your profile • tag your friends • use privacy settings to control who sees your info • NOT WITH nclüdr!
BUT you CAN have that warm, comfortable feeling in knowing the EVERYONE and EVERYTHING around where you live study or work is YOUR FRIEND.
Profile
The site’s interface reminds me a lot of Facebook, so I’m guessing the joke’s on them. nclüdr sets up everything for you. To sign up, simply type in your name and answer a series of questions. Submit your answers and nclüdr will work it’s magic to create your profile with a lot of hilariously false information. Here’s a look at my profile:
For your information, I do not do one night stands. Your profile can also be regenerated and emailed to friends.
Friends
As you can see, I have 12.3 billion friends and Julius Caesar is one of them. So is my old flame Ronald MacDonald. Here’s a screenshot of some of my other friends that are pretty important:
Bet you wish you had the U.S. Constitution as your friend! Ha!
Apps
Of course, no social network is complete without some sort of application platform. What does nclüdr have? Ball Krusher (which beats SuperPoke on Facebook by a mile)!
Overall, nclüdr is a cute prank and one that I’m sure we’ll all have a good laugh about. I recommend checking out the FAQ, Privacy, and Terms section for more laughs! Better yet, just click on every link at you can find for more laughs.
WebCanvas
WebCanvas is a world-wide collaborative painting project. On the website, anyone with a modern web browser can move around an ‘infinite’ canvas and use the available painting tools to leave there mark. You can also draw and upload images to the canvas. If others are painting in your same area, you can see what they are doing. Each area of the canvas is given a location so you can revisit your work anytime you want.
