For Love (or Not) of FriendFeed

Sarah Perez on August 19th, 2008

Today, I asked this question on Twitter and I got some interesting responses:

ff_yes_or_no2ff_yes_or_no3ff_yes_or_no_4

Now I’m really curious. I was surprised to see so many NO’s. I guess I thought that most of the people following me on Twitter would probably be social media enthusiasts who loved the FriendFeed service, too. This is a great example of how you can gain valuable insight from a quick Twitter poll. And it also convinces me that the Twitter audience is becoming more diverse than ever - not everyone is as much of a social media crack addict as I once thought.

I decided to follow this up with a longer post on RWW tomorrow and a more in-depth poll. I hope you’ll check back in the morning and participate.

Those talking about fading or reduced interest in FriendFeed are exhibiting Stage 4 in the five stages of early adopter behavior. FriendFeed is evolving. Can this user base take it?

I'm surprised at so many 'no's. This is the first service I really like. I like the flood of activity and chat. Maybe this place just has the right mix of people for me. Twitter is neat for a shoutbox. But, here's where conversation takes place.

@louis I would love to hear your take on FF's evolution and what you think is next for FF

I love FriendFeed because of the people and things it exposes me too. If someone can do it better than I would consider switching but it would have to be ALOT better. 'n' times better. Along with that, if FriendFeed fails to grow in regards to technology or partnerships, it certainly shortens the time for the 'n' to come around...

i love friend feed, and i love it's evolution. the more people i follow the more diverse the conversation gets, the more interesting things i see. What I don't love about friendfeed are the people who just pump their stuff in here and don't bother to interact with the community. If you're sending stuff in here and have no intention of checking the comments, talking with other folks, why bother? Otherwise FF has become one of my start pages. It's fan-tastic.

So far FF is the first site that I've really found 'sticky'. I like the fact that, even though it's technically an early adopter crowd, I can find plenty of non-tech material so FF doesn't wind up just looking like a copy of what I already have in my reader. I like the fact that ppl comment on the topic at hand. The conversation moves slower than twitter (overload!) and faster than a forum: right where I want it.

Love is a strong word. But I'd mention no new features have debuted recently. The new car smell is wearing off.
