I wrote about blog commenting today over on Read Write Web, which Mathew Ingram picked up on in this post, "Blogs and the ‘phone-in’ show effect." He also refers to what MG Siegler calls "bitchmemes," which are the "blog fights" that often get exposure on tech blog aggregator, Techmeme.
My original post began with Paul Graham’s "How to Disagree." Both Paul and I noted how disgreement seems more prevalent in the blogosphere than agreement.
What’s interesting is that Mathew says that he has seen the same trend at the Globe and Mail (the Toronto newspaper where he works) and refers to it as the "radio phone-in show" phenomenon. That is, more callers phone in to radio shows when they disagree with the host. What a nice parallel that is! And so true.
So I guess that goes to show you it’s just human nature at work after all. Disagreeing is way more fun. So so that mean we should add a "dislike" option to FriendFeed, I wonder?
