FriendFeed Comments Widget for Your Blog
File this under “why didn’t I think of this sooner?” - I’ve just added a FriendFeed Comments widget to my blog (see sidebar to the right, beside Recent Comments). In lieu of an actual Wordpress plugin, a FriendFeed comments widget will help me and my readers keep tabs on my blog’s activity on FriendFeed - who commented on a post on FriendFeed, who liked it, etc. Of course, you’ll also see comments for other types of FriendFeed sharing, too, like shared items in Google Reader, but I guess that’s why we need a Wordpress plugin!
You can make your own FriendFeed widget for your blog, too, in just a few steps:
- First, go to Dawn Foster’s excellent Yahoo Pipe, the “FriendFeed Comment Finder” and enter your FriendFeed username.
- Choose to the “More Options” feature to grab and RSS feed.
- Next, go to the web site of your favorite blog RSS widget (I used WidgetBox’s Blidget) and build a widget you can embed on your blog.
- If you are using WidgeBox’s Blidget, you’ll also need a URL for the FriendFeed logo, so I uploaded the logo to flickr here: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3185/2357734221_1ef23b7c35_t.jpg.
- Finally, grab the embed code and put it on your blog wherever you want the widget to display.
This will have to do for now. Thank goodness for RSS!

Interesting widget, though it seems like a lot of work to set up.
You may also want to check out The BlogCatalog News Feed widget:
http://blog.blogcatalog.com/announcements/30/
It will grab all data from your social communites and place it in the widget allowing your readers to keep tabs on, and subscribe to, your activities.

Hi Sarah,
I published an article today on how to find and install the unofficial, beta FriendFeed widget. I also show an example of it.
