IE8: First Screenshots
I just installed Internet Explorer 8. As I install and try it out, I’m uploading screenshots to my flickr set, "IE8." You can browse through the images in the slideshow below:
Notes About IE8
It Helps You Find Add-Ons: Something interesting about the install - when I get to the part about importing my settings from Firefox, IE8’s installer prompts with "We found 10 Firefox extensions on your computer" and then offers a button to "Go online and view similar IE add-ons."
Problems With the Facebook Webslice: Well, we just can’t have everything running smoothly, can we? I ran into this problem with the Facebook webslice (see below). From the release notes, I found the following info:
WebSlice errors that occur with cookie authentication in Windows Vista
When Windows Vista has Protected Mode on, WebSlices that require cookie authentication will not work in Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1. This affects the Facebook WebSlice that lets you see a friend’s status. To fix this issue, follow these steps:
- In the browser, on the Favorites bar, remove the WebSlice.
- Close Internet Explorer.
- Right-click the Internet Explorer icon, and then click Run as administrator.
- Subscribe to the WebSlice
A Feed for My Gmail: No kidding, I clicked the RSS icon while in my Gmail and it said "Gmail Atom Feed New." Has that always been there?

Microsoft are trying to appeal us Web 2.0 nerds but they’re late on the bandwagon. What will the consumer think?
the consumer is buying iphones whose commercial in the u.s. goes: “do you love facebook so much that you visit it everytime you’re near a computer? well, now you can visit it everytime you’re not near a computer…” (or something)…so facebook is popular enough to help sell cell phones, it’s popular enough to help sell a browser…and not just to web 2.0 nerds…consumers
but that’s just IMHO
Hey Now Sarah
This was an excellent post, the pix are really good (the pictobrowser looks works well).
Thx 4 the info,
Catto
Yes, the RSS feeds for Gmail have been there a very long time. Maybe over a year? Not sure … never used them except as a test.
Thanks for the IE8 screenshots.
