NanoScan - Instant Virus Scan

Sarah Perez on February 19th, 2008

Worried you have a nasty bug? Not sure if your anti-virus software is up-to-date? (Shame, shame!) A free service from NanoScan will instantly scan your PC for viruses. The service provides an “instant” scanner that searches for viruses, spyware and other threats. It can detect, in less than a minute, a huge number of threats that could be running on your PC right now. NanoScan’s detection capacity is mainly due to the new Anti-malware Collective Intelligence, a system developed by Panda Research and hosted on a network of data centers. If any badware is found on your PC, you’ll have to find other means to actually eliminate it, but the service will at least give you peace of mind as to whether or not your system is clean.

  1. Nice, I went there and downloaded the component and it bluescreened my installation. Have Vista and SP1 installed. Definitely needs to be avioded.

  2. Well, to make sure that it’s actually the software and not, oh, say…Vista, you may want to try an alternate virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

  3. I thought of that before posting… it does the same on both of the Vista machines I use. One of those machines hasn’t bluescreened with Vista since early in the Vista beta, and one of them did it only once before. My point - this OS is typically rock solid on these machines. Maybe its a Cultural thing (Technical not ethical Culture - I’m not in the US) or its just one of those tools that doesn’t work on machines that aren’t set as EN-US, but it doesn’t work here.
Thanks for the suggestion though, but I’m good with AV software :-)

  4. Well, I appreciate the feedback - that it is interesting. Hmmmm….

  5. I attempted to run a Nanoscan on Vista SP1, Firefox 2.0.0.12, BSOD when scan reaches 19%. Even if it is a Vista problem, it still doesn’t work.
