RedZee Visual Search

RedZee Search RedZee is a company trying to reinvent search through their creation of a visual search engine. The interface is pretty simple - you type in a search term, then flip through the results using your mouse. The results are screenshots of various websites, although not dynamic ones that are kept up-to-date. Pull up any blog site to see what I mean - it’s like a trip back in time! Playing with RedZee was fun, but I can’t see how it would be all that useful. With traditional search engines, you can quickly scan text to determine whether or not a search result is relevant, but with RedZee you just look at a picture. Strangely, even though the results are numbered, the #2 result was always the one that was centered in the middle of the screen when I did a search instead of the #1 result. Their logo, a red zebra, is rather cute, but beyond a quick look I can’t see myself using something like RedZee everyday for real web searches. It’s more like a proof-of-concept design than anything else. However, if RedZee would focus on just spidering the web for images and keeping those current, they could possibly have something then…just a thought.
