RSS Reader Recommendations

Tommy just asked me if I knew of a good RSS reader where you could search the text of your feeds. Good question! I’ve wanted that feature many a time, too. I use Google Reader, which is by far the best free, web-based RSS reader out there (especially when you learn the keyboard shortcuts…try u, j, and k and see what happens!) However, search is the one main feature missing from the Google Reader. Isn’t that bizarre? You would think that a product from Google would have a search feature built in! Now, there are some hacks for this problem, but most people don’t want to bother with hacking a product to make it work the way it should by default.

So what RSS reader does search? Well, the very online reader that I used prior to Google Reader does, in fact, offer the ability to search your feeds: Bloglines. What other readers offer this feature? Comment here with your suggestions.

  1. Snarfer is a nice Freeware RSS reader with Search Local (all your saved posts from all your current feeds), and Search Keyword Watch (which watches for search terms as the posts arrive).
