Joost Invites Are This Year’s Hot Ticket

As I blogged last month, the up-and-coming P2P service, Joost, is the one to watch this year. Still in private beta, lucky testers are enjoying near-TV-resolution images of instant, on-demand TV channels and other video content. Current programming offers content from Viacom, which includes content from MTV, BET, and Paramount Pictures; other Joost content comes from Warner Music. The buzz around Joost is mounting, with people clamoring for invites. In fact, a website called joostswap.com has sprung up, allowing people to swap for invites to the service. Do I have any invites to give? No, I’m just another person patiently waiting after signing up for the beta.

  1. You could do what I did. Monitor Google Blog Search for “Joost” (sorted by date) and wait for someone to say they’ve got invites to give away. I would invite you, but I have no tokens at the moment :(

  2. I was just given some tokens. You should have an invite in your Google mail account.

  3. Thank you, Daniel!! Downloading now!

  4. I’ve been testing Joost for awhile now. It certainly has potential, but there are a lot of drawbacks like heavy bandwidth usage, poor content and not-quite-there video quality. The one thing I recommend is fully exiting the client when you’re not using it, as it works similar to skype. If you leave the client on, your bandwidth gets eaten by other people.

  5. Ive been a user of Joost since late November and I agree the content isnt there and the video isnt the best on some content, but that is partly becuse content owners are not formating thier video for the platform yet .The quality of the video is very dependant on the source material Joost recives .

If you do a search for Snakes which is filmed in High def and has pelnty of slow pan shots you will see the impresive quality of Video that Joost can deliver .T

The Joost developers have said that they have rejected some content becuase the quality was not up to scratch and asked the content owner to resubmit it .

Another way to get invites is ask politely in the Joost IRC channel a few Joost developers and friends of Joost hang out in the channel and they usualy have a handful of invites .
