Google Notebook Is Live
![]()
Google Notebook is the new bookmark manager from Google. That’s right, Google wants to be your del.icio.us! With Google Notebook you can clip useful information gathered while surfing such as text, images, and links. You can create multiple notebooks, divide them into sections, drag-and-drop your notes to stay organized, and make your notebook public so you can share your bookmarks with the world. Google Notebook is not software — it’s available to you on any computer that has an internet connection. However, you can download a browser extension to simplify the process of adding items to your notebook.
Strangely, Google Notebook does not seem to have replaced Google Bookmarks, since that site is still active. Maybe they will merge in the future…it’s hard to say…but having both sites live seems somewhat redundant.
Also, unlike del.icio.us, there is NO TAGGING in Google Notebook. No tagging! It doesn’t make sense. With Gmail, you’re essentially tagging your mail with labels, so it’s not like the concept of tagging is foreign to them. Gmail is hailed as one of Google’s most innovative releases to date, so you would think that they would take note of what they did right.
Finally, Google Notebook seems to be lacking any sort of import/export feature…unless I’m just missing it…but it doesn’t appear in their FAQ, so I’m guessing it doesn’t exist yet. There’s no way I will re-create my del.icio.us collection manually!

Good point about the import/export feature. It has a print option but I don’t see any to import or export it to.
But what format would you want it to export in?
RE: Tagging I think Google probably feels that searching take care of that. You could search your snippets to find what you are looking for. It still would be nice for those that really love it.
Gave some thoughts on it here:

Tell me if I’m wrong, but does this give Google yet ANOTHER product to keep track of everything I do?
I like Google and all, but where does it stop?
I’m loving Google Notebook. I’m using the Firefox extension available with it and it’s awesome.
Reminds me a bit of Clipmarks.
Also, Sarah are you ever in BM’s SB? We haven’t talked in ages
I think the reason for the lack of tags, import, export, etc. is that it is not designed to be a del.icio.us replacement. They already have Google Bookmarks for that. I think it’s designed to compete with Backpack. But that’s just me.

Now we can make notes on Google. You can use a simple WYSIWYG editor. The note can include texts and images. You can make your notebooks public or private and section your notebook. In Firefox browser, I can fully edit my notebooks in a small area at …
