Google Real Estate

With none of the usual fanfare, Google has released a new service: Google Real Estate. However, they’re not really calling it anything yet. Google Real Estate, or perhaps, Google Homes For Sale, is a function of Google Base. You can search for homes for sale or rent by zip and various options like number of bedrooms, bathrooms, price, etc. The listings themselves appear to be posted by realtors, or realtor offices into Google Base. These Google Base postings will show you the location of the house on Google Maps (but of course!) However, the search results also bring up links to realtors’ websites, where they have items posted that match your search query. It’s still a long way away from being the next realtor.com, but it’s nice to have.

I stumbled upon this very thing today while ignoring my work. I so love surfing the web while on the job. However I was aghast when I searched my very trendy zip code in Madison Mississippi (39110) and found a listing for Flowood. One simply does not expect to be referred to lesser properties when searching a more exclusive zip code. I fired off an email to Google stating that the listing was a mis-representation. Later I realized I was searching in a 30 mile radius of my very own tony little burg. Oops.

Google Real Estate: Not Worth The Hype!
Bloggers are promoting Goggle Real Estate going live which is basically a weak Google Maps Mashup. I’m not going to link to it, because it doesn’t deserve it. It’s nothing you should really check out. Google has been known for
