The Most Useful Thing I Read Today

Sarah Perez on January 23rd, 2006

It’s been a slow news day. The top story was that Google News is out of beta*yawn*...so I went Digging. I followed a link through to an older Engadget post about hacking elevators, and I learned something new! Apparently, "lots of elevators have an express mode that lets you override everyone else’s selections and go straight to the floor you’re going to. You just press "Door Close" and the button for your floor at the same time." Now that is a useful tip!

  1. I saw that too…doesn’t work in my building.

  2. I think from what I heard it works on computer controlled elevators.

I will check with my friend, he installs elevators.

I know it did not work in my last building, but I swear there was a Flintstone Dino out back moving this elevator.

Yes it was that old. My new building is new but only 2 floors. Nothing to skip.

  3. Tried it in my building as well. No shot.

  4. Must only work on certain kinds of elevators, I guess. I know I’m going to be trying this everywhere from now on!

  5. Nice find, that’ll be some good stuff if it works - I’ll have to try to remember to try it.
