Google Groups: Is This a New Feature?
![]()
I was just visiting the Google Groups page, and I noticed that not only were my groups and my recently visited groups listed, there was also a list of "Suggested Groups." How long has that been there? I never even noticed it before! That was really handy. Reminds me of Amazon’s suggestions — a feature I really like. Someone let me know how long I’ve been missing out on this!

Collaborative filtering is one feature that’s not used nearly enough on the web. If there was a reliable way to train a suggestion engine in a decentralized way (a la TiVo’s suggestions) CF could be a new way to attack searching, surfing, browsing, blogging, etc. Someone at USF wrote their dissertation on it. It’s long. Haven’t read it yet.
I saw that new feature about a month ago when I was helping someone who runs a Google group (on my recommend. Oiy!) to find an easy way to help users sign up for the e-mail list.
I hope they spend a little time on it. Over on FoRK, Rohit’s Khare’s discussion list, someone pointed out that Google has really let Groups go since it’s just not fitting into their strategy — as it’s evolved anyway.
it’s at least one month old. You should have seen it when I sent you the Google Is Awesome group links
They also added adult content. I’m not sure how recent that was.
