Firefox 1.5: Users Angry Over Loss of Extensions

Don’t get me wrong, I love Firefox. I can’t even surf the web without it anymore. However, I happen to agree with the sentiments expressed in this article. Basically, the problem is that Firefox 1.5 will block the use of any extensions it deems incompatible…and since extensions are updated at the mercy of freelance developers, it’s highly likely that you may have a favorite (or two, or three) that don’t work with Firefox 1.5. In addition to this, the article mentions that there does not appear to be a "master list" of supported Firefox 1.5 extensions. There isn’t! At the very least, you should be able to search the extensions website for 1.5 extensions, or filter your search results to show just 1.5 extensions. This is definitely an area where the Mozilla website could be improved. When it comes down to it, though, I’ll take Firefox over IE any day.
Speaking of extensions, there is a nifty RSS feed to get info on the latest extensions.

Hopefully this will tide you over until those pesky freelance developers release new versions
1. Go to the address bar and enter “about:config” less the quotes and you will be presented with a list of all Firefox preferences
2. Right-click anywhere on the list and select New > String
3. Enter “app.extensions.version†minus the quotes again for the preference name
4. Then, enter “1.0†you guessed it, without the quotes as the value for app.extensions.version string you just created
5. Restart Firefox to enable this preference change to take effect, then enable the extensions you were having trouble with and restart Firefox again to active the extensions you just enabled
It’s not a permanant fix but it should do as a tempory solution. Please note though that it will not work with all extensions, but should work with a lot of them.
Cheers
Firefox is the best browser for the pc. The reason why they block extensions is that they don’t want people to exploit the extensions and let it install spyware or a virus. Example IE has active X which without you knowing can install anything on your pc.
Idiots.
