Will IE 7 be the death of Firefox?

Apparently, if Bill isn’t dominating 100% of the world, he’s just not happy. When Internet Explorer’s market share dropped below 90%, Microsoft became concerned. Next thing you know, Internet Explorer Version 7 was on the horizon. IE7 is supposed to be more secure and will be introducing … drumroll … tabbed browsing. These leaves some to believe the Firefox rebellion will be over. Hmmm… I doubt that. Firefox has a lot more to offer besides tabs - like Live Bookmarks, easy downloads, and not to mention about a zillion extensions. There was an official preview of the browser at Chris Pirillo’s Gnomedex, but thanks to the net, there are some unofficial screenshots since I couldn’t afford the airfare.

  1. yeah? I won’t be swtiching back.

  2. IE 7 will be the same old crappy browser under a new skin. They are not going to fix the engine. That would require a complete new rendering engine.

  3. NEVER!!

  4. I like your stuff. I’ve blogrolled you.

  5. Well I’m using both browser. From what I heard, IE is supposed to use a modified engine to apply the web standards in a better way (dont ask me details about that though …)
Though I did experienced crashes with IE, I cant count the numerous ones I did with FF and all the pseudo not working extensions.
I mainly use FF to check when writing a website or when I know I’ll have to open up many pages thru tabs.
i’m not a fan of the new MSN toolbar which give you those tabs in IE…just a bad preview of IE7 IMO…I’ll wait for the beta to come out soon and will certainly use it

  6. Getting me to move back to IE will be a tough sell as I’m not a Microsoft fan. I love FireFox. With all things being equal between the two, I would probably still stay with FireFox just out of principle.

  7. surfed in through blogexplosion. I will never use IE again no matter what. I am hooked on firefox. It is the best. Personally. I am starting to like Opera as well. It has a few features that firefox doesnt that I really like better. But IE is done at least for me.

I will admit that I will always have the latest version of IE installed, only to test my sites in. Gotta check your work in all the browsers. :)

  8. i’m not going to go back to IE just because they’re going to add in tabbed windows. i think firefox has built up a large fanbase and loyal ones at that. that and like you’ve said, ff has a gazillion extensions in addition to the tabbed browsing.

  9. firefox is awesome!

  10. Count me in with those who are sticking with Firefox, I aint EVER going back!

  11. Long live Firefox!
