Innovative Blog Designs
See the winners of the 2004 Weblog Awards for Best Blog Design. I guess so. They still look like blogs to me. Creative? Yes, definately. Innovative? Hmm….I don’t know. Isn’t innovation doing something new? Can someone explain to me if they are innovative, or just pretty?

I thought several of them looked pretty cool. All were better than any of mine!
You make a good point. These blogs were well designed, but innovative? I’m not so sure. I really don’t see anything “new”. I liked the background on Seaglass.
Sometimes I get the feeling that as I go from one blog to another, they all begin to look and sound the same after awhile.
back to the blog awards: It seems like alot of these nominees had blogs that were designed by webdesigners. So shouldnt the award go to the web designer and not to the blogger?
On the flip side, ALL of these were better designed then my blog, which has a really lame header! I can’t wait to find a good web designer and change it.
I agree, a blog is a blog is a blog is a blog. Decent designs but I wouldn’t categorize them as being “innovative”. There is no outstanding new features that would appear to be innovative. Just more blogs with different color schemes.
I also agree that if they were designed by web designers, they should receive the award, not the authors of the weblogs. Just my opinion.
I know I’m late on commenting on this post, but I felt the need to. I am a web designer, but I use blogger for my own blog. I don’t use any design techniques with my blog at all, because in all fairness, i feel like these awards should be separated.
One award should go to the best designed blog that has been done by a web designer (from scratch), and the other should go to a blogger who uses the software provided (like blogger, typepad, etc.). It’s not fair to clump them in the same category because web designers have the advantage bigtime by being able to create designs that an average blogger may never be able to create.
It’s not really fair. Blogs should be more about the content anyway….
