HD DVR Issues

Scientific_atlanta_explorer_8300hdMy HD DVR (Scientific Atlanta’s 8300HD) is pissing me off. It doesn’t work as well as my old, vanilla DVR did. When I’m recording 2 shows at once, and pause one, & the recording catches up with live TV, the screen goes black. That same recording ends up spliced into pieces in the recorded list of programs…2 minutes here…10 minutes there…Very annoying. Several times, we’ve paused live TV for a good 10 minutes or so, and then pushed play to have it do…NOTHING. Black screen. We push play again, and boom, we’re watching live TV having compeletely missed the 10 minutes that aired while we had it paused.

Joel and I even exchanged it out at Bright House, thinking that it was just a bad DVR, but the new one has the exact same problems. I’m not happy with it at all. I can’t give it up, though, because it’s the only one they offer for HDTV. When I called Bright House, the only thing they could say is that they could "send a technician out to take a look." It surprises me that no one else has had these problems? Are we just unlucky? Or could it be hooked up wrong? Or what?

I’ve had the exact same problem and others with their 8000 series box, I think they accepted the lower bid for a company to make them a DVR and it was some wanna-be programmers who thought they could program. If Bright House teamed up with some company like ReplayTV similar to how DirecTV hooked up with Tivo it would work ALOT better and they would have ALOT more customers.
