Who links to you?

Sarah Perez on November 5th, 2004

From Google:

Some words, when followed by a colon, have special meanings to Google. One such word for Google is the link: operator. The query link:siteURL shows you all the pages that point to that URL. For example, link:www.google.com will show you all the pages that point to Google’s home page. You cannot combine a link: search with a regular keyword search.

So, just for fun, I decided to see how many links I had. Here are my results:

Results 1 - 10 of about 430 linking to http://hyperculture.typepad.com.
Results 1 - 4 of 4 linking to www.sarahintampa.com.

That’s a grand total of 434 links! Cool, huh?

How many links do you have?

    Holy crap!

  2. How do I do it again?

  3. Hey there, saw one of your comments on another blog, really like your site. Will be checking in now and then. Cheers, rick.

  4. actually, googles reverse link lookup is misleading and incomplete. a lot of the links which its counting will be links coming from inside your own website, like from subpages back to the main pages. also, i know a bunch of sites linking to me for quite some time which are not listed in googles results when i look for backward links to me. technorati.com is a little more accurate, but still has both these problems. ive never seen a search engine which could really accurately solve this problem. i think its probably part of the next “frontier” in search engine technology to overcome this. it would also be especially useful when reading articles online, because then you could get a list of all the sites linking to that article with additional commentary

  5. That’s cool, but what’s even cooler is finding out which of those sites actually have been selling t-shirts with your picture on it:

    link:url; t-shirt

I know I love my sarahintampa tank top and ugg boots.

  6. It’s not accurate for me - the results are showing any blog I ever commented on and left my link at ! :-(

  7. This is a great site! Who knew I shared the bay area with such a group. (This is good news.)
Will check in often. Later peeps!
