Western Digital 250 GB Hard Drive

Sarah Perez on August 26th, 2004

PC.WDC.WD2500JBRTLYes! I got a Western Digital 250 GB hard drive today! A bargain at Circuit City for only $149.99 (after rebates). Even though I could have done the whole fdisk, format, partition thing the hard way, the software included with this drive made all those steps unecessary. It was CAKE. The software copied my C: drive over to my new drive effortlessly and, when finished, there’s even a button to view the “installation manual,” which tells you, very specifically, how to swap the drives, change the jumpers, and access your BIOS (if need be). It’s even customized to your drives and refers to them by their model numbers. It was so easy, anyone could have done it. I feel like writing a thank-you letter to Western Digital for making this process such a simple and trouble-free event. I’m ecstatic right now! I can’t wait to fill this sucker up!

  1. Sarah, thanks for the heads up on the hard drive. I am building a new computer and will be going to Circuit City tomorrow for a 250gig WD hard drive.

Now for the bad news. If you used WD software to install the drive, you also installed spyware (Backweb). I made the same mistake a few years ago.

  2. Western Digital no longer uses Backweb. See this link.

  3. Nice!! Nothing like a big hard drive to feel real macho!! LOL
