More AOL nonesense
It just keeps coming! An AOL customer thought her credit card number had been hijacked when she noticed a $100 charge on her bill, but then she finds out that AOL provided her credit card number to the company in question, Simple Escapes. Although she had never signed up at SimpleEscapes.com, or provided them with her credit card number, she had “clicked ‘yes’ to accept an offer on a page that included terms, conditions, and an explanation that, after a 30-day trial period, a ‘fee would be charged to her credit card on file with AOL.’” She did this in order to receive a $25 Kmart gift card. May I just remind you: you don’t get something for nothing, folks! (And for Kmart? Yeesh!) The parent company, MemberWorks, has since refunded her card.
The Florida attorney general sued MemberWorks last October, alleging it violated state deceptive trade practices laws by charging customers’ credit cards without authorization and by engaging in “unfair, fraudulent, and deceptive business practices,” according to its complaint. A fifth of the nearly 1000 incidents prompting the suit involve online transactions; the rest are from telemarketing sales, according to the Florida AG’s office.

What kind of ya-ya’s are out there that still use AOL anyway???
I just had a similar experience with simple escapes, and when I typed that name into my search engine I was shocked at the list of sites listing this company as a scam outfit. I am not done with them and intend to fight back!
Well Folks, looks I like I got snagged too.
I just discovered the “Simple Escapes” scam, by checking my pending debts - and noticed a $14.95 charge, that I KNOW THAT I DID NOT accept nor purchase.
Since I recalled a similar charge last month, I decided to ‘dig a little deeper’. What I found simply pi–ed me off - these @#** had charged my account 4 times-with a 5th charge pending!!
Once my blood pressure came down, I put on my ‘professional’ hat, and called the # listed.
Fortunately, I was able to speak with a live person and asked about how they got my information. Well, the info came from a Time-Life subscription that I gotten for a free trial period.
I had no idea what’Simple Escapes’did or was SINCE I NEVER RECEIVED ANY BROCHERES, NOTICES OR ANYTHING FROM THEM.
I immediately requested a cancellation and a refund. The CSR told me I could only get my pending charge returned.
Now, I belong to a Credit Union, so I intend to dispute the charges and hopefully I will be “made whole”.
But Please-Please keep an eye on your accounts - and be very carefully with your Debtcard Info.
