I love a good mystery…

Sarah Perez on June 18th, 2004

Don’t you? An article in Entertainment Weekly caught my eye today about an anonymous blog that is supposedly written by an A-list Hollywood actor. He posts as “Rance Budweiser.” The article was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, guessing who it might be. So, I jumped right on the internet and surfed on over to http://captainhoof.tripod.com/blog/ . WARNING! Adware abounds there - run Spybot S&D after visiting!

I was very disappointed. Right off the bat, I realized it was just some hoaxter and not an A-list actor. The first clue? A freebie, ad-filled website at Tripod! If there really was a famous actor who wanted to blog, don’t you think he could afford to pay a few dollars for something nicer? (Such as my lovely Typepad site?) Or pay a “techie” to set him up with something halfway decent?

Then later he says his plans for the weekend include “Budweiser. Budweiser. Budweiser….Advil.” Right. Like someone who makes millions and millions drinks Budweiser. Ewww! And finally, his profile says his interests are “blogging” and “hamburgers.” Ho hum. Shouldn’t his interests include something like sports cars or hot blondes?

Now, don’t get me wrong, if you dare to explore the site, there are some funny Hollywood stories on there, but they could have been written by any creative Hollywood insider…a screenwriter, perhaps? I’m just not buying the whole “A-lister” thing.

P.S. If you want to check out the EW link, this week’s passcode is “mustlist”.

  1. Don’t you think that if this supposed A-Lister were to set up a blog at a more high-class outfit that it might be easier for people to track him or her down? The beauty of using a free site is that no one can track you down. It’s pretty much impossible. Plus, I’m sure there are a few actors that drink Budweiser. Your reasoning is a bit strange…
