Groovy Mice!
These are pretty cool, I have to say. They’re special edition mice from Microsoft. They are some of the first mice to use the new “tilt-wheel” technology where the scroll wheel will not only scroll up and down, but you can actually tilt the wheel from side to side to scroll horizontally. Cool. Plus, they will have a feature where you can toggle between open applications (ala “Alt + Tab”) by pressing down on the scroll wheel. However, this is something Logitech introduced a year ago. Logitech also isn’t sold on the whole deal where these new mice won’t “click” when you’re vertically scrolling. They’ve studied the clicks from vertical scrolling and have “found them key to the scrolling experience.” Hmm, to click or not to click? I might have to check these out.
One last thing:
So, should we be saying “mice” (like the article does) or “mouses”? I could never figure this one out.

The Geekiest Thing I’ve Ever Seen…
This blog. It’s written entirely in Klingon. You know, Star Trek? Klingon? That’s a whole level of geek that I can’t even begin to imagine.
True or False?
Are the following statements true or false?
1. Magnets zap your data
2. Using a cell phone on a plane interferes with the navigation and communications system.
3. If you don’t “stop” a USB device before unplugging it from your computer, you’ll screw things up.
4. Cookies track everything you do on the internet.
5. Terrible things happen if you turn off your computer without shutting down Windows first.
6. Turning off your PC daily to save power shortens your PC’s life.
7. DOS is dead.
8. If you don’t periodically run your laptop battery down to zero, you’ll lose battery life.

Will Smith…Geek?
Did you know that Will Smith was recruited by MIT? Yeah, me neither! He didn’t go because he “wanted to rap,” he says in a recent interview with Wired magazine. However, had he gone, he said that “computer engineering would’ve been the only way for me to go.” As you know, he’s currently starring in the sci-fi movie, “I, Robot,” an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s classic story. The director asked the cast to read Ray Kurzweil’s “The Age of Spiritual Machines”, but Smith had already read it. He says that he “love(s) how (the author) captures the scientific elements and gives you all the real science you need to get on board but also extrapolates the potentiality, taking it to the ends of your imagination.” His words. Yeah, this guy is one smarty-pants. Who knew?

AOL users: You’re screwed!
From Free Internet Press: A software engineer working for America Online was last night charged with stealing the Internet service provider’s entire subscriber list and selling it to spammers, the senders of unsolicited junk e-mails. Jason Smathers, 24, was arrested on conspiracy charges at his home in West Virginia, close to AOL’s headquarters, where he had worked since 1999. Sean Dunaway, 21, who bought the list of 92m screen names, was arrested in Las Vegas.

Windows XP SP2 RC2
Could I be any more excited? I gotta download it now!!!
From Microsoft’s TechNet Flash Newsletter:
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Release Candidate 2 (RC2) is now available for testing in both downloadable “network installer” and Windows Update-delivered “single machine update” versions. If you are only updating one machine, you should install Windows XP SP2 RC2 through Windows Update. In most cases, your download time will be greatly shortened, and you will also have the Release Candidate version of the Windows Update V5 client installed. If you are updating multiple machines, download the full installation package.
